Aune Heggebø goal not enough for West Brom against Middlesbrough

Aune Heggebø West Brom

Aune Heggebø found the net in the English Championship last night as two Norwegian players faced each other, though he was ultimately on the losing side. The striker, who joined West Brom from SK Brann in the most recent transfer window, finally opened his league account for the Baggies.

Since his arrival, Heggebø has become a favourite among both his manager and the supporters at the Hawthorns. His work rate has been widely admired, and despite his lack of league goals until now, Ryan Mason continued to show faith in him by regularly naming him in the starting line-up.

Breaking His League Duck

Heggebø had already scored on his debut in the League Cup but had endured a frustrating wait to find the back of the net in league competition. That changed during West Brom’s encounter with Championship leaders Middlesbrough, where Sverre Nypan featured in the starting XI for the opposition. As reported by Nettavisen, Heggebø rose highest to head home and reduce the deficit, ensuring the scoreline finished 2-1 rather than 2-0.

Although the Baggies could not avoid defeat, the goal provided a personal milestone for Heggebø and justified the persistence of his manager in continuing to back him. For a striker, confidence often comes from such moments, and this breakthrough could prove crucial in shaping his contributions across the rest of the season.

Looking Ahead at West Brom

The Championship is known for its physical intensity and competitiveness, representing a clear step up from Heggebø’s previous experience in Norway. At SK Brann, he had developed a reputation for scoring freely, but the challenge in England has been greater, with defences providing less space and time.

Now that he has his first league goal, the expectation is that further opportunities will follow. Both the club and its supporters will be encouraged by his determination and the manner in which he continues to adapt to English football. If Heggebø can maintain his strong work ethic while adding greater consistency in front of goal, he has the potential to become an even more influential figure for West Brom as the campaign progresses.

For the striker himself, last night’s goal is likely to mark not just an isolated moment but the beginning of a more productive spell in front of goal, one that could significantly aid his team’s ambitions this season.

  1. Heggebo is WAY off the pace as a striker, goal scoring rate not acceptable. WBA have to give Maja a chance…… Heggebo needs to go to shooting school!
