Bodø/Glimt gets a boost as they prepare to take on Tottenham

Europa League trophy

Tottenham Hotspur are set to face Bodø/Glimt in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, and while the Premier League club are widely regarded as favourites, they will be well aware of the dangers posed by their opponents.

Bodø/Glimt have become one of Europe’s most intriguing underdog stories in recent seasons. The Norwegian outfit have not only dominated domestically but also made a significant impact on the European stage. Their victory over Lazio in the previous round, a side who had topped the league phase, sent a clear message to all remaining teams in the competition: Bodø/Glimt are not here by chance, and they are not to be underestimated.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have seen their domestic form falter in recent weeks, and their performances in the Premier League have lacked the consistency required to secure a top-four finish. The North London side currently find themselves in a difficult run of fixtures, with a crucial league match against Liverpool sandwiched between the two legs of their European semi-final. Ideally, Spurs would have preferred a more forgiving domestic schedule, allowing them to dedicate full focus and energy to what could be their most important fixtures of the season.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, the fixture list has not been kind. They will travel to Anfield to take on Arne Slot’s side in a match that could further dent their already slim hopes of finishing in a Champions League spot. Resting players for that game could spark criticism, but there is a growing sentiment that the Europa League presents Spurs with a more realistic route to both silverware and a return to the Champions League.

In contrast, Bodø/Glimt have received a timely boost ahead of their clash with Tottenham. As reported by Football London, the Norwegian Football Federation has granted their request to reschedule their upcoming Eliteserien match against Fredrikstad, which was initially due to be played on 1st May. That fixture will now take place in July, giving Glimt an extended preparation period leading into the European semi-final.

This move hands the Norwegians a valuable advantage, as they will be able to rest and prepare specifically for Tottenham, while Ange Postecoglou’s men are forced to navigate a packed fixture schedule. Bodø/Glimt’s additional preparation time may well allow them to be sharper and more tactically focused when the sides meet.

Despite this, Tottenham remain the stronger side on paper and will be expected to progress to the final. However, given the recent form of both teams and the logistical advantages afforded to Bodø/Glimt, Spurs would do well not to take this tie lightly.

Should they approach the match with anything less than full commitment, they risk falling victim to another chapter in Bodø/Glimt’s remarkable European journey. For Tottenham, the challenge is clear, juggle the demands of the Premier League while maintaining their pursuit of European glory.
