Erling Haaland signed a new ten-year contract with Manchester City in January 2025, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2034.
The remarkable agreement secures the long-term presence of one of the world’s leading strikers at the Etihad Stadium and makes any potential transfer extremely difficult for rival clubs to pursue.
Despite that commitment, Haaland continues to be linked with moves to some of Europe’s biggest teams. The Norwegian forward is widely regarded as a dream signing for many elite clubs due to his exceptional goalscoring record and consistent performances at the highest level.
Agent addresses Barcelona speculation
Recent reports suggested that Barcelona could be interested in signing the striker, prompting Haaland’s agent to respond publicly to the rumours.
Rafaela Pimenta addressed the speculation and dismissed the claims of any discussions regarding a possible transfer.
She said, as quoted by CityXtra:
“I’ve often said we have a lot of respect and admiration for Barcelona.
“But there hasn’t been any contact whatsoever, either with Erling Haaland or with Barcelona’s management, regarding potential transfer targets.”
Her comments made it clear that, despite the continued rumours linking the striker with major European clubs, there has been no communication between the player’s camp and the Spanish side.
Long-term commitment to Manchester City
Haaland is widely considered one of the most complete and effective strikers in world football at present. His goalscoring ability, physical presence, and consistency have made him one of the most valuable players in the modern game.
It is therefore unsurprising that leading clubs would be eager to secure his signature if the opportunity arose.
However, Manchester City have taken decisive steps to protect their position. By agreeing to such a lengthy contract, the club have ensured that any potential transfer would be extremely complicated to arrange.
The financial aspect also presents a significant obstacle. Haaland reportedly earns a substantial salary at Manchester City, meaning any club attempting to sign him would likely need to break global wage records to make the move possible.
Even in that scenario, City could still choose to match any offer, further strengthening their ability to retain their star striker for the foreseeable future.
