Bodø/Glimt took a significant step towards climbing to the top of the Eliteserien standings with a 4-2 victory over Viking yesterday. The result sees them move into third place, with three games in hand, positioning them as strong contenders in the title race over the coming months.

Their fixture backlog stems from an impressive European campaign, which saw them reach the semi-final of the Europa League earlier this summer. While their domestic rivals continued playing league fixtures, Bodø/Glimt were occupied with continental commitments. However, their focus has now returned to domestic competition, and the impact has been immediate.

Viking Under Pressure After Setback

Viking had emerged as early frontrunners in the Eliteserien, capitalising on Bodø/Glimt’s reduced league schedule to climb to the summit of the table. At one point, they appeared unstoppable, with many tipping them to go on and lift the title. Yet, as expected, the pressure of leading the pack has begun to take its toll.

The clash with Bodø/Glimt was seen as a true test of Viking’s title credentials. In what turned out to be a thrilling encounter, they were found wanting. Although the match ended in defeat for Viking, the quality and intensity of the contest demonstrated why both clubs are considered among the finest in the league.

Five First-Half Goals Light Up the Match

The opening 45 minutes saw an extraordinary flurry of goals, with five of the match’s six goals scored before the interval. Supporters were treated to an end-to-end spectacle that lived up to the billing of a top-of-the-table showdown.

Speaking after the match, Bodø/Glimt striker Kasper Høgh told TV2, “It was a wild game. I hope everyone enjoyed some popcorn for this game.” Viking captain Zlatko Tripic also shared his thoughts, stating, “It was a really great match. When you concede four goals, it gets tough.”

With momentum now in their favour and games in hand, Bodø/Glimt are well-placed to mount a serious challenge for the title in the second half of the season.
