Magnus Wolff Eikrem responds to being sidelined at Molde

Magnus Wolff Eikrem

Molde continues to prioritise youth development, a shift in strategy that has had a noticeable impact on the roles of experienced players, most notably, Magnus Wolff Eikrem. The 34-year-old midfielder, a club stalwart, is no longer a guaranteed starter as the team looks to build for the future.

Having returned to the club in 2018 following an earlier spell from 2011 to 2013, Eikrem has long been regarded as one of Molde’s most influential players. However, the club’s renewed focus on nurturing young talent has changed the landscape for many veterans in the squad.

A Changing Strategy at Molde

Molde’s commitment to youth has seen several older players reduced to bit-part roles or asked to move on in search of more game time. Despite this, Eikrem has maintained a professional attitude, continuing to make an impact whenever called upon.

His performance in the recent 2–0 victory over Bryne demonstrated his continued value. Coming off the bench, Eikrem delivered two assists in just 45 minutes, underlining his quality and ability to influence matches even with limited time on the pitch.

Eikrem’s Response and Continued Determination

Though his game time has been affected, Eikrem remains defiant and driven. Speaking to TV2, he said: “When people say I’m not good enough, it ignites something in me.” His mentality and professionalism are clear, and performances like the one against Bryne serve as a reminder of what he can offer.

While Molde’s future appears to be built around a new generation of talent, Eikrem’s experience and ability remain assets that could still prove vital in the season ahead.
