Mohamed Salah has added fuel to the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of their highly anticipated Premier League showdown on Sunday. The Egyptian winger, who leads the league’s Golden Boot race with 24 goals—five more than City’s Erling Haaland—has suggested that Haaland has an “easier” job when it comes to scoring goals.
In a recent interview with Sky Germany, Salah acknowledged Haaland’s talent but emphasised the differences in their roles on the pitch, commenting as quoted by Goal “I respect him a lot. We may have only spoken once after the last game. But he’s a striker, so his life is easier. I wish him all the best, of course,” Salah remarked. He went on to explain, “But his life is easy because he plays as a striker. As a winger, getting that kind of quota is pretty difficult. Any winger can tell you that. That’s why I see it differently between us, because he’s a striker and I’m a winger”.
Salah’s comments come at a time when he is not only outscoring Haaland but also showcasing his versatility with 15 assists this season. His contributions have been critical to Liverpool’s success, as he has amassed an impressive 49 goal involvements across all competitions, including 29 goals and 20 assists.

Meanwhile, Haaland’s availability for Sunday’s match remains uncertain after he was benched during Manchester City’s Champions League exit against Real Madrid earlier this week. The Norwegian striker reportedly raised fitness concerns with manager Pep Guardiola due to a knee issue, which could keep him sidelined for the crucial clash at the Etihad Stadium.
This brewing rivalry between Salah and Haaland adds another layer of intrigue to what promises to be a pivotal encounter in the Premier League title race. Salah’s ability to shine from the wing and Haaland’s clinical finishing as a central striker highlight their contrasting yet equally impactful styles of play.
As both teams gear up for this decisive fixture, the performances of these two superstars could heavily influence their respective clubs’ title hopes. Whether Salah continues his blistering form or Haaland makes a triumphant return, all eyes will be on these two attacking powerhouses as they battle for supremacy on Sunday.
