Newcastle United targets Alexander Sørloth after he broke La Liga record

Alexander Sørloth with Erling Haaland

Fresh from scoring the fastest hat-trick in the history of La Liga, Alexander Sørloth has been linked with a potential move to Newcastle United, according to Caught Offside.

Sørloth is currently enjoying an excellent run at Atletico Madrid and appears eager to continue his career there for the foreseeable future. Atletico are widely considered the third-strongest side in Spain and could challenge for the league title if Barcelona and Real Madrid experience difficulties. The club signed him for his goalscoring ability and would understandably prefer to keep him. However, despite being 29, he is now attracting interest from clubs outside Spain.

Newcastle United have reportedly been monitoring Sørloth for an extended period and are said to be keen on adding him to their squad. The club sees him as a strong fit for their style of play and believes he could be a valuable addition to their attacking line-up.

Sørloth Seen as Competition for Isak

Although Newcastle already boast one of the most highly regarded strikers in the world in Alexander Isak, Sørloth is viewed as an ideal option to provide healthy competition. Strength in depth remains a clear priority for the Magpies, particularly as they aim to remain competitive across multiple competitions. Sørloth’s profile and current form make him a natural candidate to reinforce the attacking department and contribute immediately if signed.

A Return to the Premier League Could Appeal

Sørloth previously played in the Premier League during a spell with Crystal Palace from 2018 to 2020, having joined from Midtjylland. His time in England was not especially successful, as he struggled to make a significant impact and secure a consistent place in the squad. However, he is now a more experienced and mature player, both on and off the pitch. A return to England could offer him an opportunity to re-establish himself in what many regard as the most competitive league in world football.

His performances in Spain have not gone unnoticed, and interest from a Premier League club suggests he is once again a name worth watching.
