Ole Gunnar Solskjær is reportedly interested in signing Christian Eriksen for Besiktas, and according toTurkish media outlet Sporx, contact has already been made between the parties. Eriksen, recently released by Manchester United, is currently a free agent and appears intent on continuing his professional career, with the next World Cup now less than a year away.
At 33, Eriksen has made it clear he is not considering retirement, and his availability has attracted interest from multiple clubs. Although his 2024–25 campaign at Old Trafford was underwhelming, it mirrored the broader struggles of the team as a whole. Few players in the Manchester United squad stood out last season, and Eriksen’s performance was arguably affected by the lack of cohesion around him.
Besiktas, led by Solskjær, are looking to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish and have already moved decisively in the market by adding Tammy Abraham to their ranks. Solskjær is now targeting Eriksen as the next major signing to add experience and creativity to the midfield.
Eriksen Offers Creativity and Experience
The Danish midfielder’s technical quality and composure on the ball are well known. His ability to dictate play, provide service to the forwards and control possession in tight spaces would offer Besiktas an added dimension. Solskjær is believed to view Eriksen as a player who can not only start matches but also offer leadership to a relatively young dressing room.
According to Sporten Besiktas have tabled a two-year contract offer, and Eriksen’s agent is expected to travel to Istanbul in the coming days to discuss the terms further. Should the deal be finalised, Eriksen would join a growing list of high-profile names brought in to help elevate the club’s domestic and European ambitions.
Solskjær Revisits an Old Target
This would not be the first time Solskjær has attempted to sign Eriksen. During his time at Manchester United in 2019, he tried to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford, but the move ultimately did not materialise. Eriksen opted for a different destination at the time. Now, with new circumstances and fresh motivation, Solskjær is hopeful that this renewed pursuit will lead to a successful outcome as Besiktas prepares for the upcoming season.
