AS Roma winger Ola Solbakken is set to return to Norway, with a move to Molde currently in the works following a difficult spell in Italian football.
Solbakken joined Roma from Bodø/Glimt in 2023, having made a name for himself as one of the most exciting attacking talents in Norway. His standout performances for Bodø attracted interest from several top European clubs, and his move to Serie A was seen as a significant step forward in his career.
Career Stalls After Promising Start in Norway
However, since making the switch to Italy, Solbakken’s career trajectory has taken an unfortunate downturn. He has made only 15 league appearances for Roma, scoring a solitary goal during that time. The lack of consistent playing time led to a series of loan moves, as the club sought to find him more minutes on the pitch.
Last season, he spent time at Empoli, marking his third loan spell since signing for Roma. He has also featured on temporary deals with Olympiacos and Urawa Red Diamonds, but none of these stints have managed to reignite his early promise or provide the platform he needs to thrive.
Molde Move Offers Chance for Revival
Now, a return to his homeland appears imminent. As reported by Nico Schira on his X profile, Molde is actively working on a deal to bring Solbakken back to the Eliteserien. Molde has not enjoyed the strongest campaign and is aiming to strengthen their squad during the current transfer window.
The move is said to be progressing swiftly, with all parties keen to finalise the transfer in the coming days. According to the report, Solbakken has already packed his bags and is preparing to return to Norway, signalling his desire to rebuild his career in a familiar environment.
A fresh start at Molde could provide the consistency and support the winger needs to rediscover his form and once again establish himself as a key player in Norwegian football.
