Ola Solbakken looks set to bring his time at AS Roma to an end, with a move away from the Italian capital now said to be imminent. The Norwegian winger joined Roma from Bodø/Glimt in early 2023 but has struggled to make a significant impact during his spell at the club.
Solbakken has made only 15 Serie A appearances since arriving in Italy and has spent much of the past year out on loan. His first temporary move away came in September 2023, and he has since had three separate loan spells as Roma sought to find him regular playing time elsewhere.
Empoli Spell Offered Temporary Relief
Most recently, Solbakken spent time at Empoli, where he became a key figure in their squad during the 2023–24 season. Despite featuring regularly and contributing to the team’s campaign, Empoli chose not to activate an option to make the move permanent. He has now returned to Roma, but his prospects of featuring under the current management remain bleak.
The club no longer sees him as part of their long-term project, and both parties are now keen to find a solution that will allow the player to relaunch his career with more stability.
Nordsjælland in Advanced Talks
Among the clubs monitoring Solbakken’s situation, FC Nordsjælland have taken concrete steps to secure his signature. The Danish side is believed to be in advanced negotiations with Roma and is close to finalising a permanent transfer for the winger.
According to Nico Schira, a deal is progressing well ,and the transfer fee is set at around 1 million euros. Discussions have been ongoing for several days, and the agreement is expected to be completed shortly. For Solbakken, this move represents a chance to settle at a club where he can play regularly and rebuild his form.
With the move all but done, the forward will hope that Nordsjælland offers the right environment for him to re-establish himself and regain the consistency that brought him to Roma’s attention in the first place.
