The Norwegian teams with a chance to make league phase of European cups

UEFA trophies

Norwegian football is experiencing a resurgence in European competitions, with several of the country’s top clubs now deep into the qualification rounds for the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. Following Bodø/Glimt’s remarkable run to the Europa League semi-final last season, there is renewed optimism that more clubs from the Eliteserien can make an impact on the continental stage.

Bodø/Glimt continue to lead the charge and are currently preparing for their final hurdle in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. As reported by the UEFA official website, the Norwegian champions will face Austrian side Sturm Graz. A win over the Austrian outfit would secure Glimt a place in the lucrative league phase of the Champions League, a major achievement for both the club and Norwegian football.

Tough Fixtures Ahead Across European Tiers

In the UEFA Europa League, Fredrikstad face a significant challenge as they go up against Danish club Midtjylland in the third qualifying round. Should they emerge victorious, they would then meet either KuPS (Finland) or RFS (Latvia) in the playoff round to earn a place in the league phase.

Brann, another Eliteserien side, is also navigating the Europa League path. If they overcome Häcken of Sweden, they will meet the winner of the tie between AEK and Legia Warszawa in the playoff round. However, should Brann fall short against Häcken, they would still have a lifeline via the Conference League, where they would face the loser of CFR Cluj vs Braga in the playoff.

Viking are currently engaged in Conference League qualifiers and face a stern test against Turkish side Başakşehir. Victory in that tie would set up a playoff against the winner of Craiova (Romania) vs Spartak Trnava (Slovakia).

Rosenborg also remain in the hunt for a Conference League spot. If they defeat Hammarby of Sweden in the next round, they will face German side Mainz 05 in the playoff—a major step up in competition.

If Fredrikstad are eliminated by Midtjylland in the Europa League, they will drop into the Conference League playoff round, where a tough match against Premier League side Crystal Palace awaits.

With several clubs just two games away from securing a league stage berth, the coming weeks could be defining for Norway’s presence in European football.
