“Very natural” Nusa delighted to be playing familiar role at RB Leipzig

Antonio Nusa

Antonio Nusa is most effective when deployed on the wing, a fact clearly demonstrated by his performances for the Norway national team. His natural flair, pace and creativity are best showcased in that position, where he has consistently impressed on the international stage.

Last season, however, his club campaign was far less productive. Nusa was regularly used as a wingback, a role that did not suit his strengths. This tactical decision contributed to a disappointing season overall, with his club ultimately missing out on qualification for European competition.

Managerial Change Brings Fresh Opportunity

In response to last season’s underwhelming results, the club acted decisively by replacing its manager. This move appears to be a timely one for Nusa, who may stand to benefit significantly from the change in leadership. A new manager brings new ideas and formations, and early indications suggest that Nusa will return to his favoured position on the wing.

The attacker has expressed satisfaction with how pre-season preparations have unfolded, and he appears confident ahead of the new campaign. Nusa remains one of the most talented players at Leipzig, and expectations for him are high. His ability to perform at the top level hinges on being utilised in the right role, and it seems the new coaching approach under Ole Werner is likely to support that.

Tactical Alignment with National Team Setup

Importantly, the system now being employed at Leipzig mirrors that of the Norwegian national team, offering Nusa a sense of continuity and comfort on the pitch. As quoted by TV2, he explained:

“We have tried some new things in training and are playing a different system, which I like. I know this formation from playing with the Norwegian national team, so it is not new to me and feels very natural.”

With this tactical consistency, Nusa is well placed to rediscover his best form at club level, and Leipzig will be hopeful that he can play a decisive role in their season.
