Veton Berisha is set to depart Molde following a mutual agreement between the player and the club to terminate his contract. The decision brings an early end to his time in the Eliteserien, just over a year after he arrived with high expectations.
The 31-year-old joined Molde in 2023 from Hammarby IF, having been brought in to play a central role within the squad. At the time of his signing, Berisha was a seasoned professional with international experience, having previously represented Norway at senior level. However, he has not featured for the national team since 2022, with recurring injuries significantly disrupting his career trajectory.
Injuries Derail a Promising Spell
Berisha’s time at Molde was initially viewed as an important chapter for both the player and the club. His leadership qualities and experience in the game were key factors in Molde’s decision to recruit him. Despite these credentials, fitness issues plagued his spell at the club, limiting his appearances and preventing him from making the sustained impact that had been anticipated.
Although Berisha was under contract until the end of the 2026 season, both parties have now decided that a termination is in their mutual interest. As clubs across Europe adjust their squads during the transfer window, his departure reflects a broader reshuffling of personnel. It also signals a fresh opportunity for Berisha to potentially find a new environment where he can regain form and continue his career.
Berisha Reflects on His Difficult Journey
The striker opened up about his struggles during his time at Molde. As quoted by VG, he stated:
“It has been a very tough time for me personally. I have been injured a lot, and it has been hard to stand on the sidelines. But what has kept me going are the people here. I would not have been able to get through it without the support of my teammates, support staff and everyone around the club. They have meant a lot to me.”
Berisha’s departure is marked not by frustration, but by mutual respect and gratitude. While injuries may have hindered his contributions on the pitch, his presence off it clearly left a positive impression. Molde now moves forward with their plans for the season, while Berisha explores the next step in his professional journey.
