David Møller Wolfe will spend this season on loan at Hamburger SV, but it was not easy for him to leave Wolves and complete his move to the Bundesliga club.
Although he had an indifferent time in the Premier League last season, Wolfe was one of the players Wolves wanted to keep as they pushed for an immediate return to the English top flight. The defender was seen as a fine player with enough experience to help them compete in the Championship.
However, Wolfe wanted to move to a top flight division before the transfer window closed. He pushed for the move to happen and eventually achieved his wish, giving him the chance to rebuild his career at Hamburger SV.
The defender will now look to help the German club while also hoping to earn a permanent move, either to Hamburger or another bigger team, if he can impress during his loan spell.
Wolves tried to keep Wolfe
Wolves were keen for Wolfe to remain at the club and did not make his departure straightforward. Even after it appeared that an agreement had been reached, they continued trying to keep the defender and made efforts that threatened to frustrate the move.
That made the final stages of the transfer particularly difficult for Wolfe and those working on his behalf. His agent, Stig Lillejord, has now revealed just how complicated the process became before the move was finally completed.
Lillejord explained that negotiations with Wolves continued even after they believed everything had been settled, leaving them having to fight to get the defender out of the club.
Agent reveals transfer battle
Lillejord said to VG:
“There have been many tough rounds with Wolves. It has been extremely difficult to get him out. We thought we were done before the weekend, then things come up from Wolves’ side. It has been a little war”
Wolfe can now put those difficulties behind him and concentrate on his new challenge in Germany. The loan move gives him the opportunity to play in a top flight division and show what he can offer after a difficult period in England.
Hamburger SV will hope the defender can make a positive impact, while Wolfe will be determined to use the season to rebuild his career and create opportunities for his next move.
What do these buffoon agent’s think we have to bow to their demands, we should have told him the second word is OFF, Wolfe was happy enough to sign the contract, he was part of the team that got us relegated, so he doesn’t want to play in the championship – I have news for him NEITHER did the fans, good riddance judus.
